“The benefits of having IRS perform Patient Dose Audits are significant…”
“The benefits of having IRS perform Patient Dose Audits (PDA’S) are significant, especially as I have found working as Lead Radiation Protection Supervisor in a small DGH.
As with a number of other trusts, we took the decision to allow IRS access to the patient dose records we entered routinely onto our Radiology Information System.
There are 2 major advantages, firstly they have access to thousands of patient dose records, this enable them to produce, on our behalf, meaningful reports that enable our department to make real decisions around examination protocols and exposure parameters.
The reports they generate are concise, detailing mean values, 3rd quartile ranges and recommended Diagnostic Reference Levels. Comparisons are made with your data and national reference data. They also come with recommendations for further investigation if needed.
The second major benefit is around time. There is no way I could interogate the shear number of patient records. Obviously, Patient Dose Audit and Diagnostic Reference Levels are an integral part of IR(ME)R 2000. Knowing IRS is doing this for me, and having the evidence to back it up, is a great comfort when the Care Quality Commission come knocking”
East Cheshire NHS Trust – Simon Lewis Lead Radiation Protection Supervisor

“Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has had a long relationship with I.R.S Ltd. During the many years of working together there have been many service developments enabling our Trust to provide accurate data, reports and ensure our quality Assurance testing is robust.
We have recently been involved with I.R.S in patient dose audits. This has enabled the Trust’s PACS and I.T teams have worked closely with I.R.S to produce data via our electronic database whilst ensuring confidentiality.
