Do you require the recommended quality assurance checks carrying out on your x-ray equipment? * Dental X-Ray Equipment
*Please note: Equipment performance and radiation safety is required by Regulation 11 of The Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and Regulation 15 of The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations.
Recommended testing frequency is dependent on the type of X-Ray equipment used. In most circumstances, Intra oral/Pan Oral (2D) equipment requires safety checks at least once every 3 years, whereas handheld Intra oral and Cone Beam CT (3D) units will require annual checks. Cone Beam CT users may only require 3-yearly checks if a suitable QA test object is available and monthly tests are conducted, as itemised in Appendix I2 of the dental guidance notes.
For further guidance, please refer to Guidance Notes for Dental Practitioners on the Safe Use of X-ray Equipment (2nd edition), available
All necessary radiation safety and equipment performance checks may be covered by a service and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) contract.
However, the service and PPM may NOT cover all checks required. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure all checks are undertaken by competent persons. IRS’s FAQs provide a comprehensive list of tests that IRS advise, as RPA/MPE, is undertaken.
