The 20th ICMP conference on Medical physics is due to take place in Brighton in 2 days time. Jason Fazakerley and I will be travelling south tomorrow so we can attend the education day on Sunday. There will be workshops on x-ray shielding and lectures on the physics and technology of CT amongst other strands.
This conference is a joint meeting between 4 medical physics bodies whilst being co-sponsored by IUPAP and IAEA. It is one of the biggest medical physics meetings this year and will be attended by every level of medical physicist from trainees to the ‘big-wigs’ and any other interested parties.
The 3 conference days will provide many opportunities to listen to invited speakers and proffered papers on a variety of medical physics topics from the technology to the clinical aspects of our job. Jason will be presenting his paper entitled “Application of IQWorks for Quantitative Image Analysis of Spatial Resolution in MRI using Modulation Transfer Function” based on his resent MSc dissertation. I have put together a poster with Paul Charnock with the title of “The Commissioning and Routine Testing of Digital AEC Systems”, showing our work that has gone into fulfilling IPEM32:VII on the testing of DR systems.
There will also be a chance to socialise with others, meeting old and new contacts from all over the country/ world that may prove to be valuable resources of information or even life long friends!
