Lead mammography physicist having recently completed a stint as chairman of the NHS Breast Screening Programme National Coordinating Group for Mammography Physics Quality Assurance. I am still an active member of this group.
Customer liaison contact for scientific and technical compliance issues and responses to IRS customers that are not of a routine nature. Customer liaison in relation to scientific and technical services for new business ventures.
Extensive experience in providing radiation protection advice to diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine facilities within the NHS, Independent Sector, Educational establishments and industrial users of ionising radiation. This has included advice on regulatory compliance and the practical assessment of radiation safety, equipment performance and contamination levels in laboratories, nuclear medicine and x-ray departments in respect of IRR99, IRMER2000 and EPR10 (formerly RSA93 in England).
I am experienced in the performance testing of a range of equipment particularly that used for medical imaging, namely diagnostic x-ray units, diagnostic ultrasound, computed tomography, mammography x-ray units and medical lasers.
Other areas of company activity in which I am extensively involved are the presentation of lecture material on the subject of radiation protection for both ionising and non-ionising radiations. Presentations have been made as part of the training courses run by IRS ltd but also at scientific and radiation protection conferences in the UK and abroad including on behalf of the European Commission.
I am experienced in producing and updating radiation safety policies and relevant radiation protection documentation for medical and industrial users of ionising and non-ionising radiation. This includes commenting on existing radiation protection documentation and auditing user compliance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations and other associated legislation.
I continue to act as an RPA, MPE (Medical Physics Expert) and RWA to IRS customers in healthcare, industry and education. I have recently been accepted as an RPA2000 Assessor.
