Regulation 13 of the Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 (IRR99) requires that employers working with ionising radiations must consult with a suitable Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) on matters detailed in the IRR99 (listed below).
IRS has a team of highly experienced RPAs who can help you to fulfil this requirement. All our RPAs are accredited by RPA2000, which is a recognised accreditation agent by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). IRS also holds corporate accreditation as an RPA body with HSE. This ensures IRS can provide co-ordinated, expert advice at all times.
IRS RPAs are available for consultation by telephone, fax, email or pre-arranged visit at any time during normal working hours (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm). After hours service can also be provided, if required.
IRS is also highly experienced in the management and coordination of emergency situations involving radioactive materials and has been a NAIR respondent for over 30 years. Resultantly, IRS has developed a unique and wide-ranging knowledge of industrial radiation protection needs that often require effective interaction and communication between multiple stakeholders.

Our RPA service will advise you in a clear and friendly manner the best, most cost-effective methods of complying with all requirements of the relevant provisions, codes of practice and guidance notes relative to radiological protection. Following any of these investigations by our highly qualified and experienced staff, IRS will recommend in writing the correct and cost-effective measures that should be adopted to rectify the situation.
IRS provides a wide range of personnel and environmental radiation monitoring services. These services will help you monitor the effective and equivalent doses received by persons who may have been exposed to ionising radiations and/or potential exposures that may be received from the working environment.
IRS provides a film or TLD badge service with whole body or extremity monitoring available as required. Our flexible and competitively priced monitoring service can supply badges to be worn for periods of one or two months. Badges can be supplied continuously, periodically or on a one-off basis. All monitoring services come with the ability to view your dose reports online and are approved by the Health and Safety Executive.
IRS is happy to arrange and undertake any additional RPA visits at an agreed and acceptable cost. These will be undertaken by experienced and fully qualified RPA staff with many years experience in the industrial sector.
However, IRS employs other flexible, up-to-date consultation mechanisms, including the use of digital images of the industrial environment and/or video and telephone conferencing in order to gain a full and detailed understanding our customers’ radiation needs. Furthermore, an RPA is always available at short notice by e-mail or telephone for direct consultations. IRS ensures that requests for advice are followed up promptly, with the customers’ needs placed first.
